Creative/Health Sabbatical

Hello, friends! Just a quick but super important update for you:

Starting today, July 15, 2025, I will be taking a creative and health sabbatical to finish the final edits on The Flame That Sings and recover from a recent severe chronic illness flare. I’m not exactly sure when I’ll return—this fall, perhaps!

Important information in the meantime:

  • The Numinous Spirit Press shop is currently closed. It will reopen when I return. You can get my books from other retailers (check the book’s page on my website for links), but decks will be unavailable until the shop is back.

  • Wholesale is closed as well, and will reopen when I return.

  • I am not going to be reading and responding to emails. I will respond when I return.

  • I will still be posting at least one update per month to the BackerKit campaign for The Flame That Sings, detailing progress and any relevant instructions for backers. Please look out for these updates in your email or check the campaign page or FAQ if you are a backer. Reward delivery ETA is still December 2025 or early 2026. And yes! The book will be available again for purchase soon after that if you missed the campaign.

  • I will be scheduling old short stories to Patreon for you to enjoy—when I say old, I mean OLD—things I wrote in my late teens and early 20s! With a few exceptions, basically no one has ever read these before. They’re different than my current writing, but I still think they are good and you’ll enjoy them. I may also post monthly writing blogs about the final editing process on TFTS.

I have a decent amount of funds to get me through the next few months with the shop closed, but if you’re feeling generous and it’s within your budget, I would be beyond grateful if you’d consider donating a small amount per month on Patreon to help me get through this time. You can also join for free and still enjoy the short stories and (possible) writing blogs!

Those of you who are already on Patreon with me might know from my updates that I’ve been struggling lately. It’s part of a burnout cycle related heavily to my neurodivergence/trauma history, which I have been striving to build a new life around for the last few years. This is a scary step for me to take in that process, but I think it will be worthwhile. It will give me more time and energy to think about how I want to run this business in the future that’s more sustainable and healthy given my current limitations.

Thank you all for being such an incredible and wonderful audience. It’s in part because I know my audience is very caring and compassionate that I don’t feel terrified to take breaks like this. And when I come back, if all is well, it’s book release time!!

Best,
Cedar McCloud
